EU-India STI Cooperation

Background

Since 2009, within the Strategic Forum for International S&T Cooperation the Commission, the EU Member States and India have engaged in a policy development process to map out on-going initiatives, the EU, MS and India, identify common S&T priorities and prepare coordinated actions. Two Conference were organised in November 2010 in Delhi and in May 2012 in Bruxelles to develop the India - EU and Member States Strategic Roadmap for Research and Innovation.

The EU-India Joint Declaration on Research and Innovation Cooperation, signed at the 12th EU-India Summit calls for "moving up a gear in our cooperation towards building an Indo-European Research and Innovation Partnership with (i) larger scale, scope and impact, (ii) focus on common societal challenges, and (iii) enhanced synergies between India, the EU and its Member States”.

To support this process EU/MS and India agreed to establish a structure for this Indo-European STI Partnership – the Group of Senior Officals, short GSO, which will meet every second year. The GSO itself is co-chaired by DG Research & Innovation – Mr. Smits -  and Secretary DST – Mr. Ramasami and will see senior management level of representatives of the member states and Indian ministries. The GSO itself will steer and coordinate the dialogue between EU/MS and India and will have the final decisions concerning the “EU-India Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda”.

Eu-India Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda has recognised three primary thematic areas for cooperation: 1. Water, 2. Energy, 3. Health. In these pages you find information related to the cooperation in these three thematic fields.

This project has received funding from the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological
development and demonstration.
