Institute of Photonic Technology (IPHT)

The Institute of Photonic Technologies develops innovative optical solutions for use in the betterment of health, the environment, safety & security, production and energy. In the field of nanobiotechnology, both magnetic and plasmonic particles are utilized for applications in biomedicine and bioanalytics, such as hyperthermal cancer therapy or novel DNA chip detection techniques based on metal nanoparticles. These approaches are complemented by the development of customized microfluidics and other (e.g. sample preparation and processing) integration technologies in order to develop system solutions. Examples for such a system is an integrated setup combining chip PCR with electrical DNA-chip detection for the identification of microorganism, as it will be further developed in the submitted project.
